Imperium
A downloadable game
A tactical 4X space strategy game where every ship you command is designed by you, every colony is shaped tile by tile, and every rival empire plays for the win.
Steam page went live 18th June 2026. :)
If you are serious about supporting my work and would like to help test - I have 5 spots open for closed testing.
Please bare with me, it will be worth it :)
The game
Choose from 21 unique alien species - master builders, master destroyers, master scientists, master diplomats - and forge an empire across a procedurally generated 3D galaxy. Discover star systems, settle worlds, design custom fleets, build embassies, and play out a diplomacy system where every action ripples through the galaxy. Meet enemies in tactical space combat. Decide whether you'll win through conquest, careful expansion, or by binding the galaxy together in peace.
What's in the build
- 21 playable alien species, each with unique passive and active abilities, ship aesthetics, and theme music
- Procedurally generated 3D galaxy with starlane navigation, per-species fog of war, and four galaxy sizes from compact 12-system maps to 100+ system epics
- Component-based ship designer - pick weapons, shields, engines, sensors, and special devices balanced within power reserves and hull limits, then save designs as templates for fleet-wide production
- Iso-tile colony management with construction queues, governors to reduce admin load, planet-attitude templates, and multi-tile megastructure buildings that scale into permanent surface landmarks
- Deep technology research tree spanning 60+ topics, each yielding multiple usable components and buildings, with explicit prerequisite chains and parallel queueing.
- Tactical turn-based space combat with shields, weapons, special devices, retreats, and orbital assault - in 3D space, not abstract hex
- Imperium Points diplomacy - an asymmetric relationship system where every species has their own opinion of you, and every event ripples through the galaxy by personality, alignment, and reputation. Wars, alliances, tech trades, border friction, and broken treaties all carry distinct weight
- Embassies and ambassadors - physically build a diplomatic compound on your capital or a border colony, then unlock a tiered ladder of asks: passage rights, colonising rights, dock-use treaties, tech trades, joint research and industrial projects, and full alliances
- Strategic AI with five planning postures (Builder, Expansionist, Aggressor, Defender, Hybrid) and six ship-design archetypes, and a tactical combat layer - opponents that adapt, plan, design their own ship templates, and proactively reach out for diplomacy
- Table Turn - swap which empire you command mid-game, with proper per-species fog-of-war so the new perspective genuinely is theirs (500-year cooldown prevents ping-pong)
- 5 victory conditions: Military Elimination, Territorial Supremacy, Homestar Capture, and Galactic Peace - a joint victory for every surviving species when the galaxy holds long-term peace. Plus an Endless Mode toggle for testers who want to keep playing past the end-game
- Full save and quicksave, polished UI, opening title music plus 21 per-species themes, quality-of-life settings (auto-pause on planet events, collapsible side panels), and an in-game crash log so bug reports land with the right context attached. :)
Built in Godot 4.5. Mac and Windows. Linux build coming.
Updates and feedback
Imperium is in active alpha development. Patches ship to itch.io as features land, and there's a public devlog with each release covering what's new and what's been changed. Bug reports and feedback go a long way - drop into the Imperium Discord for issues, questions, or just to chat about the game.
Steam page coming soon. The wishlist link will be added here when it goes live.
